Short Term Scientific Missions applications
The COST Action IC1403 “Cryptanalysis of ubiquitous computing systems” (CRYPTACUS) offers grants for Short Term Scientific Missions (exchange visits between labs from different COST Countries). The procedure is lightweight and the grant can be up to 3500€.
STSMs (Exchange Visits) are aimed at strengthening the existing networks by allowing scientists to go to an institution in another COST Country to foster collaboration, to learn a new technique or to take measurements using instruments and/or methods not available in their own institution. STSMs are particularly (but not only) intended for young scientists (less than 8 years after PhD).
Min 5 days, max 90 days (extended days beyond 90 days are possible).
A STSM Grant is a contribution to the overall travel, accommodation and meal expenses of the Grantee. The calculation of the financial contribution for each STSM must respect the following criteria:
– Up to a maximum of 2500€ in total can be afforded to each successful applicant;
– Up to a maximum of 160€ per day can be afforded for accommodation and meal expenses.
The upper limit is 3500€ in total for Early Career Investigators performing a longer mission, between 91 and 180 calendar days. Note that the values above are maximum values.
The applicant must tightly calculate the requested budget, taking the cost of life of the visited city into account. Cryptacus may reject an STSM application if the requested budget is not suited to the mission.
Who can apply?
The Applicant should normally be engaged in a programme of research as a postgraduate student or postdoctoral fellow or be employed in an institution of a COST Country having accepted the Memorandum of Understanding of the Action.
Who to visit?
From a home institution in a COST participating country to a host institution in another COST participating country or to a formally approved host institution in a non-COST country (or from a formally approved home institution in a Near Neighbour country to a host institution in a COST participating country). The list of institutions and COST participating countries of the Action IC1403 is available online at http://www.cost.eu/COST_Actions/ict/Actions/IC1403.
The application requests are processed all along the year.
Please, fill in a form at https://e-services.cost.eu/stsm and then send the resulting PDF (including your CV, mission statement and duration) to Bart Preneel (STSM Coordinator), COSIC KU Leuven, email: bart.preneel[at]esat.kuleuven.be, with copy to Gildas Avoine (MC Chair), INSA Rennes, email:gildas.avoine[at]irisa.fr
STSM applicants will be selected with the aim to promote scientific excellence; special attention will be paid to mainstreaming gender equality, development of collaborations with or within inclusiveness countries as defined by the COST Office, and support of Early Career Investigators
